Canon released the IXUS 265 HS in March 2014 — 16-megapixel BSI CMOS, 12× zoom spanning 25–300mm, Wi-Fi and NFC, in a 22.4mm-deep metal body. Versus the later IXUS 285 HS, you give up 4 megapixels but keep Hybrid Auto and Creative Shot modes that Canon quietly dropped in 2016. The zoom, body, and processor are essentially the same. THE LOOKS
The purple IXUS 265 HS has a deep, slightly metallic violet finish over the curved metal body — the familiar IXUS pebble shape at 99.7 × 57.6 × 22.4mm, with the 3-inch LCD taking up most of the rear and controls kept minimal. The lens extends noticeably when active — a 12× zoom requires a proper barrel — but retracts flush when off. No grip on the front, just the slightly raised Canon logo. The IXUS 265 HS justifies carrying it with one spec: 25–300mm in a 22.4mm-deep metal body. That range covers every practical situation — wide groups at 25mm, stage shots at 300mm — with Wi-Fi to skip cable transfer afterward. Purple is the most visually interesting color in the range. CMOS rather than CCD means cleaner high-ISO output but less of the warm digicam character — the honest trade-off for a camera that works this well at 300mm.
