Casio Exilim EX-Z2

Casio's Exilim EX-Z2 is a slim, no-fuss ultracompact built around the Exilim Engine 4.0 — a processor capable of running high-precision image analysis and scene processing simultaneously. In practice that meant better handling of backlit shots and high-contrast scenes, a perpetual challenge for small-sensor compacts. The polished aluminum finish gave it a premium look that sat well above its budget positioning, and the lens retracted fully flush when off, keeping the slim profile honest.

THE LOOKS

The EX-Z2 follows Casio's minimalist Exilim design language in a compact rectangular body measuring 96.8 × 56.5 × 17.8mm — 15.8mm at the thinnest point. The polished aluminum surfaces catch the light cleanly, and the lens disappears completely flush into the body when powered down. The 2.7-inch screen dominates the back without any visual clutter. Available in silver and purple, among other colors.

THE VERDICT

The EX-Z2 is the Exilim formula distilled: slim metal body, straightforward operation, and a processor working harder than the price suggests. It won't challenge anything with a larger sensor, but as a pocketable everyday compact with honest build quality and snappy response, it delivered exactly what the Z-series always promised. A clean, unpretentious little camera from Casio's final confident era.
