CONDITION: 8/10

THE CAMERA IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION WITH MINIMAL WEAR. THE POLISHED ALUMINUM BODY HAS MINOR SCRATCHING, MOST VISIBLE ON THE RING AROUND THE LENS, TYPICAL FOR THIS ULTRA-SLIM METAL DESIGN. THE REST OF THE BODY IS CLEAN. THE LCD SCREEN IS CLEAR. THE LENS IS PERFECT AND CLEAR. ALL FUNCTIONS WORK PERFECTLY INCLUDING SHOOTING, EXILIM ENGINE 4.0 PROCESSING, BEST SHOT MODES, AND ALL BUTTONS. BATTERY AND CHARGER INCLUDED. A WELL-PRESERVED EXAMPLE OF CASIO'S ULTRACOMPACT EXILIM FROM AROUND 2010.

Casio's Exilim EX-Z2 arrived around 2010 as a slim, straightforward ultracompact built on the company's Exilim Engine 4.0 image processor. The polished aluminum finish gave it a premium look that belied its budget positioning, embodying the Z-series philosophy of making cameras thin enough to truly pocket while delivering respectable image quality. The Exilim Engine 4.0 promised improved image processing with better handling of backlighting through simultaneous high-precision analysis—marketing speak that basically meant the camera tried harder to not blow out highlights or crush shadows, a perpetual challenge for small-sensor compacts of this era.

THE LOOKS

The EX-Z2 follows Casio's minimalist Exilim design language with a slim rectangular body in polished aluminum. The brushed metal surfaces resist fingerprints while providing enough grip, and the clean lines keep visual clutter to a minimum. At typical Exilim dimensions it's genuinely pocketable, with the lens retracting completely flush when powered off.

THE SPECS

The EX-Z2 uses a 12.1-megapixel 1/2.3-inch CCD sensor with Casio's Exilim Engine 4.0 processor. ISO sensitivity extends to 1600. The camera includes Casio's typical suite of scene modes and automatic features designed to simplify shooting. Built around the company's focus on slim profiles and ease of use, it stores images on SD/SDHC cards.

DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS

  • Polished aluminum construction: The metal body with brushed finish provided both durability and a premium aesthetic at the entry level.
  • Exilim Engine 4.0 processing: Casio's image processor performed simultaneous high-precision analysis to improve exposure in difficult lighting situations.
  • Ultra-slim Z-series profile: Following the Exilim philosophy of making cameras thin enough to actually slip into a pocket and forget about until needed.

THE VERDICT

The Exilim EX-Z2 is a straightforward ultracompact from Casio's Z series lineup. The polished aluminum body, 12-megapixel sensor, and Exilim Engine 4.0 processing made it a competent pocket camera for casual photography, embodying Casio's focus on slim profiles and simplified operation.
