Nikon's Coolpix A10 came out in 2016 as an easy, no-fuss little camera with one very handy trick: it runs on ordinary AA batteries. Run flat on a trip and you just grab more from any shop — no charger, no waiting. The lens starts nice and wide, good for groups and views, and zooms in 5×. With an older-style sensor, photos have that warm, slightly soft look people love now. In silver it's the plain, everyday pick.

THE LOOKS

In silver, the A10 is a simple, rounded little camera with a comfy front grip that makes it easy to hold — roughly 96 × 59 × 29mm and about 160g, a touch chunkier than the slimmest compacts because it's carrying AA batteries. The 2.7-inch screen sits on the back with clear, simple buttons. Nothing about it is fancy; it's built to be picked up and used by anyone. Also came in red, black, and purple.

THE SPECS

The lens starts nice and wide — good for fitting a group or a view — and zooms in 5× to bring things closer. The older-style sensor gives that warm, slightly soft look these are loved for. Scene Auto reads what you're pointing at and sorts the settings itself, so there's nothing to set. Steadying is done with software rather than a moving lens part, so it's happiest in good light. It runs on two AA batteries, swappable anywhere, and shoots HD video. One honest note: dark rooms aren't its strength. Approx. 96 × 59 × 29mm, ~160g.

DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS

  • Runs on ordinary AA batteries: no charger to carry — run flat on a trip and you just grab more from any shop.
  • A wide lens that fits the group: starts nice and wide, so a group or a whole view fits in the frame without backing up.
  • Reads the scene for you: point it and Scene Auto picks the right settings itself — nothing to fiddle with, just press the button.

THE VERDICT

The A10 is about as simple as a camera gets, and that's the appeal: point it, press the button, done. The AA batteries mean you're never stuck without power on a trip, the wide lens fits everyone in, and the photos have that warm older-camera look people want now. It leans on software to steady shots and doesn't love the dark, so keep it to good light. For an easy, cheap, throw-in-a-bag camera, it does the job. In silver it's the everyday one.
