Sony's DSC-T2 came out in late 2007 as a slim, pretty pocket camera with a party trick: 4GB of storage built right in, so it could hold around a thousand photos with no memory card at all. The lens hides inside behind a sliding cover, so nothing pokes out and it stays flat in a pocket. Add a tap-to-shoot touchscreen and that warm, slightly soft older-camera look, and it's easy to just carry everywhere. In pink it's one of five colours.

NO FILTER: SHOT ON T2

THE LOOKS

In pink, the T2 is a soft, glossy rectangle — 86.8 × 56.8 × 20.2mm, 129g — with a sliding cover across the front. Slide it down and the camera wakes up; slide it up and everything tucks away flush, lens included, so there's no barrel sticking out. The whole back is a touchscreen with almost no buttons. It's clearly built to look good sitting on a table, not just to take pictures. Also in green, blue, white, and black.

THE SPECS

The headline is the storage: 4GB built in, enough for roughly a thousand photos with no card needed — rare for its day. The lens hides inside and never pokes out, and it has a proper built-in stabiliser that keeps shots sharp when your hands aren't steady, which many cameras this small skipped. The sensor gives that warm, slightly soft older look. Smile Shutter can watch for a grin and fire by itself. You control it all by tapping the screen. One catch: the 3× zoom is modest and doesn't go wide. 86.8 × 56.8 × 20.2mm, 129g.

DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS

  • A thousand photos, no card needed: 4GB of storage built in, so you can shoot all day without ever slotting in a memory card.
  • A lens that never pokes out: slide the cover to turn it on — the lens stays tucked inside, so it stays flat and pocket-friendly.
  • Keeps shots sharp on its own: a proper built-in stabiliser steadies your hands indoors and in low light, which cameras this slim often skip.

THE VERDICT

The T2 is a camera to carry for how it looks and how little it asks of you — slide the cover, tap the screen, done. The built-in storage means no fumbling with cards, the stabiliser keeps shots sharp indoors, and the photos have that warm early look people want now. The one honest limit is the zoom: short and not wide, so it's better for people and close-ups than big groups or wide scenes. In pink, a proper little pocket object.
