Good condition overall. Chipping anti-reflective layer on the screen — typical characteristic of this model; and paint chipping around the lens cover edges. A few minor scratches on the back panel. All functions work perfectly.

The DSC-T77 landed in September 2008 with a specific claim: world's thinnest compact with a 4× optical zoom. At 13.9mm at its slimmest point, that held up. Sony achieved it through folded optics — the Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar never extends from the body, the front stays flat whether the camera is on or off, opened by sliding the cover down. In black the T77 is the version that reads as a deliberate design choice rather than a playful one.
NO FILTER: SHOT ON T77

THE LOOKS
The black T77 has a high-gloss finish that catches light sharply — polished surfaces that make it look more like a lacquered object than a camera. The body is 93.6 × 57.2 × 15mm, all-metal, with the entire rear given over to the 3-inch widescreen touchscreen and virtually no physical buttons anywhere. The sliding lens cover doubles as the power switch. At 126g it disappears in a pocket. Also available in silver, pink, green, and brown.
THE SPECS
The 10.1-megapixel Super HAD CCD and Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 4× zoom cover 35–140mm equivalent with Super SteadyShot optical IS — folded optics mean the lens never extends at any focal length. The 3-inch 16:9 touchscreen handles everything: focus point selection, menu navigation, zoom during playback. BIONZ processor, Face Detection 8 faces, Smile Shutter, iSCN, D-Range Optimizer. VGA/30fps video. 15MB internal + Memory Stick Duo/PRO Duo. HD component output. 93.6 × 57.2 × 15mm, 126g.
DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS
- 13.9mm thin through folded optics: the Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar is vertically stacked with a 90-degree prism — no extending barrel, the front face stays flat at every focal length.
- Entire rear surface as touchscreen: focus point, zoom, menus all through the 3-inch 16:9 panel — virtually no physical buttons on the back, in 2008 still an unusual commitment.
- High-gloss black over all-metal body: the lacquered finish catches light from every angle — the T77 in black reads as a designed object in a way the silver and green versions don't.
THE VERDICT
The T77 won on form first. At 13.9mm nothing else with a 4× zoom came close, the folded optics keep the front face completely flat, and the all-touchscreen rear was a bold interface choice in 2008. The black finish is the T77 at its most considered — the high-gloss surface makes it look like an object worth owning, which is exactly what the T-series was always about. Warm CCD output, proper design piece.
