Sony's DSC-W570 came out in 2011 as a small, easy camera that punches above its price thanks to a proper Carl Zeiss lens. It starts wide enough to fit a whole group or a room — opens bright to pull in light, and has a real built-in stabiliser to keep shots sharp. With an older-style sensor, photos have that warm, slightly soft look people love now. Point, press, done. In grey-silver it's the clean everyday version.
THE LOOKS
The silver W570 reads as a cool grey-silver — brushed metal that leans gunmetal in some light. It's a small, flat little camera, roughly 91 × 52 × 19mm and around 116g, that slides easily into a pocket. The lens tucks nearly flush when it's off, and the 2.7-inch screen fills the back with simple controls beside it. Nothing fussy, just a neat little box. Sony also made it in black, violet, and pink.
THE SPECS
The lens is a proper Carl Zeiss that starts genuinely wide — a group or a whole room fits without backing up — and opens bright at that end to pull in light. It zooms 5× to reach further, and a real built-in stabiliser keeps handheld shots sharp. The older-style sensor gives that warm, slightly soft look these are loved for. Sweep Panorama pans across a view and stitches one wide shot; a Smile Shutter fires when someone grins. Shoots HD video. One note: the lens dims as you zoom in, so far shots want good light. Approx. 91 × 52 × 19mm, ~116g.
DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS
- A wide, bright Carl Zeiss lens: starts wide to fit a group and opens bright for indoors — proper glass on a small, cheap camera.
- A real built-in stabiliser: steadies your hands so shots come out sharp, even in dimmer light where cheaper cameras blur.
- Sweep a panorama in one go: pan across a wide view and the camera stitches it into a single wide shot, no tripod or software.
THE VERDICT
The W570 quietly does a lot for a cheap little camera: a wide, bright Carl Zeiss lens, a real stabiliser, and that warm older-camera look people want now. The wide end fits everyone in, the stabiliser keeps things sharp indoors, and Sweep Panorama is a fun bonus. The zoom gets dim at the far end, so distant shots want daylight, but for everyday snaps, parties, and travel it's a tidy all-rounder. In grey-silver it's the understated, everyday pick.
