Sony’s 2012 Cyber-shot DSC-W670 wraps a useful 6× zoom in a bright pink compact that feels purposeful. Its front is simple colour and geometry: a square pink face, a contrasting silver lens surround and a small flash set neatly beside it. The older-style CCD sensor gives photos a warm, softly rendered character, while the 26–156mm reach, optical stabilisation and 360° panorama keep it ready for more than casual snapshots.

THE LOOKS

Sony called this finish Pink: a lacquered tone across the flat front, sides and top. The lens ring is silver, not pink, giving the central lens window contrast. The W670 is square and upright, with its lens at left, a narrow vertical handhold at right, flash above, and tidy white Sony and Cyber-shot marks. A 2.7-inch screen occupies most of the rear. Official line-ups also showed it in black, silver, blue, red, purple and gold, varying by market.

The W670 uses a 16.1-megapixel 1/2.3-inch Super HAD CCD — an older-style sensor for a warm, slightly soft look — and a Sony 6× zoom lens. Its 26mm wide end fits a group or a building in frame, while 156mm brings distant details closer. The f/3.5–6.5 lens is modestly bright at wide angle and dimmer at full zoom, so long shots favour good daylight. Optical SteadyShot helps reduce shake. It adds 360° Sweep Panorama, face detection, Picture Effects and 720p HD video, all viewed on a 2.7-inch screen. 97.6 × 58.1 × 20.4mm; 141g with battery and card.

The CCD gives it the softer, warmer rendering people seek from this era. It is best outdoors or in well-lit rooms, especially at the long end, but its optical stabilisation and panorama mode make it an easy camera to keep moving with.
