THE CAMERA IS IN GOOD COSMETIC CONDITION WITH MODERATE SIGNS OF USE. THE BODY SHOWS NORMAL WEAR WITH SCRATCHING AROUND THE CHROME LENS RING. THE CHROME DECORATIVE PART AROUND THE POWER BUTTON HAS LOST ITS REFLECTIVE LAYER. THE 2.5-INCH LCD SCREEN DISPLAYS SLIGHTLY BRIGHTER VERTICAL STRIPES FROM THE BOTTOM—BARELY VISIBLE DURING NORMAL USE AND DOES NOT AFFECT PHOTO QUALITY OR FUNCTIONALITY. ALL FUNCTIONS WORK PERFECTLY AND THE CAMERA IS FULLY OPERATIONAL. PRICED TO REFLECT THE COSMETIC WEAR.

Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-W80 arrived in March 2007 as part of the W-series lineup, positioned as a more affordable alternative to the ultra-slim T-series while maintaining compact dimensions and solid features. With a 7.2-megapixel sensor, Carl Zeiss lens, and Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization, it was aimed at casual shooters who wanted reliable snapshot performance without breaking the bank. The W80 also brought face detection technology and HD output capability to the budget compact segment.

THE LOOKS

The W80 has a straightforward, functional design with clean lines and minimal decoration. Available in silver, black, pink, and white, it features a chrome lens ring and chrome accents that give it a touch of visual interest without being flashy. The body is compact and pocket-friendly, with a 2.5-inch LCD on the rear and a traditional optical viewfinder—a feature becoming rare in 2007 compacts.

THE SPECS

The W80 uses a 7.2-megapixel Super HAD CCD sensor paired with Sony's BIONZ image processor. The Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 3× optical zoom lens covers 35-105mm equivalent with Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization. The 2.5-inch LCD handles composition and review, while VGA video recording captures clips at 30fps. The camera featured 31MB of internal memory plus Memory Stick Duo card support.

DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS

  • Excellent starter camera: Simple controls and straightforward operation make it ideal for anyone new to digital photography or wanting a reliable everyday shooter.
  • Face detection technology: Sony's system detected up to eight faces simultaneously, adjusting focus, exposure, white balance, and flash metering accordingly.
  • Fast shooting without flash: Quick shot-to-shot times for continuous shooting, though flash recharge can slow things down between shots.

THE VERDICT

The W80 is a practical, no-frills compact from Sony's budget-conscious W-series. It delivered reliable snapshot performance with effective image stabilization and solid battery life, making it a dependable everyday camera for casual photographers.
